One of the main reasons people visit the Algarve is undoubtedly its beaches. The region is famous for its golden sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and impressive cliffs.
Some of the most well-known beaches include Praia da Marinha, frequently ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and Praia do Guincho, which attracts surfers due to its strong waves.
But the Algarve is not just about swimming beaches – it also offers numerous natural pools formed by cliffs and caves, such as the Benagil Caves, an unmissable destination for those who enjoy boat trips.
In addition to its beaches, the Algarve is known for its charming villages and coastal towns. Lagos, for example, is a town that combines history and natural beauty. The historic center of Lagos is full of narrow, colorful streets with plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafés. Moreover, the city boasts several fortresses and walls that date back to the times of the Portuguese Discoveries.
Another point of interest is Tavira, a peaceful town with Moorish influences, where you can walk along the Gilão River or visit the Tavira Castle, a medieval fortress with stunning views of the town.
Albufeira, known for its vibrant nightlife, and Portimão, with its rich fishing history and the famous Praia da Rocha, are other unmissable towns that are part of the Algarve route.
The Algarve has a rich history dating back to ancient times, from Roman occupation to Moorish influence. The city of Silves, for example, was the capital of the Algarve during the Muslim occupation, and Silves Castle, with its imposing red walls, remains one of the most important landmarks of the town.
The city of Faro, the capital of the region, has a fascinating history. Faro’s Old Town is surrounded by Roman walls and features several churches and historical monuments. The Faro Cathedral, which blends Romanesque and Gothic elements, is one of the most impressive in the region.
The Algarve’s gastronomy is another reason to visit the region. With its proximity to the sea, fresh fish and seafood dishes are a must-try, such as the traditional bacalhau à brás (salted cod) and amêijoas à bulhão pato (clams with garlic and cilantro). Cataplana, a typical dish of fish cooked in a copper pot, is also a highlight of local cuisine.
For wine lovers, the Algarve offers a rich wine production. The region has several wineries that produce high-quality wines, many of which can be sampled in specialized tours.
Our driver will meet you at your hotel or apartment at the agreed time on your voucher and give a brief overview of what the 2 Days Algarve Tour will entail. Our itinerary starts with a drive from Lisbon to Algarve. Explore the Algarve and discover some of its hidden gems, such as Tavira, Faro, Vilamoura, and Albufeira, each with its own charm and unique features. Tavira is known for its numerous bridges, including the famous Roman bridge over the Gilão River, and for its abundance of churches, some of which date back to the 13th century. In Faro, the region’s capital, you can visit the impressive “Chapel of Bones” in the Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, a striking monument made with human bones as a tribute to mortality and spirituality.
Vilamoura, famous for its sophisticated marina, is a hub of luxury and leisure, featuring some of the best golf courses in Europe. As night falls, its vibrant nightlife makes Vilamoura an ideal spot for those seeking entertainment. Finally, Albufeira, with its golden beaches and charming streets lined with shops and restaurants, is one of the most popular destinations in the Algarve. Its old town still holds traces of the Arab occupation, blending history with lively attractions.
Discover the Algarve from Praia da Rocha to Sagres, ending in charming Lisbon. Praia da Rocha, in Portimão, is famous for its stunning cliffs and wide golden beaches, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sea. Along the coast, Lagos stands out for its rich history of maritime exploration; it was here that caravels set sail in the 15th century toward unknown lands. Lagos also offers remarkable sights, such as the Church of St. Anthony, the Fort of Ponta da Bandeira, and the stunning rock formations of Ponta da Piedade.
Heading further west, Sagres is a destination of breathtaking natural and spiritual beauty, home to the historic Sagres Fortress, where Prince Henry the Navigator launched the Age of Discovery. Sagres offers a rugged and magnificent landscape, with awe-inspiring views of the Atlantic Ocean from Cape St. Vincent, the southwesternmost point of Europe.
Finish the journey in Lisbon, a vibrant city steeped in history, from the cobblestone streets of Alfama to the iconic monuments of Belém.
I was in Portugal with my family in November / 2018 and hired the 2 day tour to the Algarve.
I opted for this company for the positive reviews I saw on Tripadivisor. I mounted the itinerary and sent Mr. Hugo, who was always helpful, answered the messages and clarified my doubts promptly. During these two days to the Algarve we were delighted with the assistance of guide Carlos. Spectacular person, super educated, careful, high-spirited, knowledgeable in the history of Portugal, made us totally comfortable and safe. So much so that we hired another two days for a tour in Lisbon, Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Estoril and Cascais. His tips on places visited, restaurants, ways to save queue and option for faster journeys were essential for the use of time. We can say that we made a friend in Portugal. My family and I were very happy for the fun and knowledgeable days we spent. Thank you to Mr Hugo, and especially to Carlos! God bless them!
